We had several conversations with friends and acquaintances in the community over the last several days and were struck by their thoughts on the new hospital. To summarize, they were aware of three things:
- A new hospital is going to be built over the next several years, and that’s a good thing
- It will be built in Downtown Utica
- A few people are “against it,” but it will happen anyway
After those three points, any further discussion tended to make their eyes glaze over.
We offer this summary today, because sometimes passion for a point of view obscures the larger landscape of public opinion. Most folks are busy with their own lives and want a better future for their families and community.
And when the debris of argument is cleared away, their common sense prevails.
