“Progress.”
It’s the word often applied to #mvhsdowntown–to the overall concept of a single healthcare center serving our community and to the remarkable public-private investment in the heart of of our area’s largest city that it represents.
The finished project will, indeed, represent remarkable progress for the entire community. And all along the way to 2023, benchmarks are occurring that represent progress for #mvhsdowntown. Here’s a summary from Mohawk Valley Health System and recent media reports:
President/CEO Darlene Stromstad:
- MVHS has secured the medical center site with purchases and purchase agreements.
- “Construction fences are being put in place to secure properties as removal of hazardous materials such as asbestos begins. Once this process is completed, the buildings will start coming down.”
- “Our goal is to have a ‘shovel in the ground’ by the end of the year.”

Other recent regulatory approvals and increasing community and financial support for the project–too numerous to repeat here–have been reported in the media. An Observer-Dispatch August 27, 2019, editorial summed up continued progress; The project “will be a game-changer not only for regional health care, but for the continued economic development of downtown.”
Look for continued progress reports in the weeks and months ahead.
